Nikon D850 Fast Start with John Greengo

This course was fantastic and helpful. I know I can go back and refer to it at any time if I get stuck navigating the menu. John speaks clearly and gets right to the point. I just posted the link on the D850 page for those who are new to this fabulous camera

Informative class - regardless if you are new to Nikon or a previous Nikon shooter. Really breaks down the menu options and provides some general guidance for those just starting out and some suggestions on how to improve for those who have been shooting for a while. Highly recommended!

Excellent class, very informative for a newbie to the D850. It is very fast paced so you will need to go back and review what he taught but very in-depth and overall shows you what you need to know and more.

The course has alot of good information but .... the John talks way to fast! Was he trying to hurry the info so he could use the bathroom? Slow it down and it would serve the students so much better!

John did a great job as usual.turning on ExposureE One thing I found the took a while to figure out, was the affects of turning on Exposure Delay Mode. Ding so, eliminates High speed Continuous Shooting. I used John's training to set up a new D850 to shoot the Reno Air Races. Having Continuous shooting mode turned off would have been devastating. Just a heads up.

I've had my D850 for a number of years, and expected to learn a few new settings. To the contrary, I actually reset my controls (custom control settings) quite a bit to adjust to my shooting style. So I found this class very helpful in making my D850 more convenient to use. There is one quirk in Nikon's system that John did not cover. If you change the bracketing order to under/normal/over expose--which is a common adjustment--the first exposure has to be underexposed. So in manual mode the camera will work fine if you expose first, and then set up the bracket. But if you bracket regularly (as I do for landscape) and leave bracketing on and camera settings in manual mode you need to make sure the first shot is underexposed. It's a bit of an issue which has thrown me off a few times.

Explained in a simple way. These lessons saved me time, which I otherwise would have spent going though manuals. Now I can operate my D850 with improved confidence.

This was an excellent class. The teacher was very knowledgeable and interesting to listen to. He kept me engaged in the material and I learned so much more about my new camera than if I had to learn by trial and error.

Holy Cow! There is a lot of information this class gives you about this camera! I've never been a manual reader, I just look up what I need to know. This tutorial, explanation, guide whatever you want to call it is easy to watch and listen to, well organized and chalk full of useful information. I had no idea this camera was as good as it was until I watched this (I'm only up to video #6)! I would also consider/recommend any of Johns classes (about specific models of cameras) if your considering purchasing that camera. It's not a review of the camera but a real world application and demonstration of what you can do with the camera. It is extremely helpful having all the different functions broken down and explained when evaluating a camera prior to purchase. Money well spent! Thank you!!

Well worth the money in learning the Nikon D850. His style and tone was easy to follow and was far better than expected.

John is a great instructor. He has a knack of taking complex subjects and breaking them down so it's simple to understand.

It is, by far, the most complete guide I've ever seen (on Nikon D850 cameras or anything else, really). It is a class completely worth buying if you really want to know what the camera can do (which is a lot). Also, John Greengo is amazing at explaining. Definetely one if the best classes I ever bought.

I am only three lessons in, but already I know that this is exactly what I'm looking for, and exactly what I need. The content of the lectures AND the visuals are top-notch and deliver precisely what the course says it is: FAST START. I am a graduate of our local college's digital photography program, which I studied with an entry-level Canon. Moving to the top-of-the-line Nikon was a giant leap for me, and one I could not do without this help. Sure, there are many, many, many more things to learn, but to put this camera in my hands and help me to understand its fundamental operations is a great gift, and I am grateful. Well done!

Although better than the manual and Thom Hogan's guide, John Greengo’s video on the Nikon D 850 glosses over the camera’s more complicated functions including the following: Although the D 850 menu offers 5 options for Bracketing / flash and 4 options for Flash mode, the video says little to nothing about them. Greengo explains that since the camera does not come with a flash, he will not discuss these options. Unfortunately, the manual for my Nikon speedlight SB-800 does not mention these options leaving it to me to figure out how to integrate my new camera with my old flash. Yet according to Nikon the D850 and the SB-800 are compatible. The D850 has 4 photo shooting banks and 4 custom settings banks. Greengo concentrates of the shooting banks, which are the simplest, and gives only a few examples of the custom banks. He particularly glosses over how to set the camera’s custom controls and fails to explain whether different sets of custom controls can be assigned to each of the 4 custom settings banks. In Greengo’s defense, the D850 manual and another guide, written by Thom Hogan, fail miserably in explaining how to adjust custom controls and settings. Makes you wonder why Nikon put these options on the D 850.

Very useful video! Although English is not my native language, I was able to follow everything. I can recommend it! After this class you will not miss out on important new features of the D850z

82 yrs old. Been an avid photographers since 5 yrs old. Read and listened to all types of photo teachers. Greengo is the best of all. Every so called photographer can still learn from a master on the D850. Fantastic camera and fantastic teacher.

John presented this class in a very straightforward, easy-to-understand manner. Even after having shot numerous Nikon DSLRs (including the D800e), I found this very helpful in learning my new D850. Well done and highly recommended.
