Class Introduction

This is Fine Art Photoshop Editing with TJ Drysdale, and I am your host, Kenna Klosterman. TJ is a fine art photographer who is based in Tampa, Florida, and his images showcase scenes that make us feel like we are in fairytales. We are so excited to have TJ Drysdale here on the CreativeLive stage. Please help me give him a big shoutout. (applause) Thank you, everybody. How's everybody doing? Good, good. Awesome, awesome. Well, my name is TJ Drysdale, and in this class we're gonna learn my fine art editing process. Whether you're just getting your start in photography or you're a seasoned professional, this class is gonna, this class is gonna help you. I think it's important to remind everybody that art is truly subjective, and that we as creatives, we're inspired by many things, whether it be landscapes or portraits or poetry, you know, the list goes on and on, but me personally, I've always been inspired by film, and I've always tried to incorporate that kinda like cinematic qua...

lity into my work, and hey, I'm just excited to teach you guys a little bit of what I know and hopefully it inspires you to go out there and continue to create works of art of your own, so in order to achieve that, we're gonna discuss some focused RAW conversion techniques that I use. We'll run through some basic steps of Photoshop. We'll get a little bit more advanced, and although we're gonna be primarily focusing on my fine art style, I just want to show everybody that you know, this style can be used for many different photographic styles. Everybody has a different one. And although this is personal, I just want to let you know that, you know, what you're gonna learn today can be utilized in your own work, so with that said, let's get started.

Well, this dude is awesome, he knows too much! What I saw when I first watched this instruction is his manipulation of light, and he knows light and color. If you don't know Photoshop, and Adobe Camera Raw --- you will need to learn many of those functions first to follow along. TJ isn't showing you why he does certain things step by step, he is creating, and you're watching him do it. He does tell you the reason for Camera Raw is to get as much detail out of the Raw file before taking it into Photoshop, but then he does it all by eye, no histogram help, no clipping help, no sharpening reasoning ---it's all on the fly. He's a brilliant young man -- he isn't an instructor yet, because he doesn't know that he knows more than all of us already ---because it comes so easy for him. If you want to see how to create light in your landscapes and colors TJ style --- watch and learn ---more than once---if you don't know the basics of all the layers and functions ---you'll be watching this class many times. For TJ doing this live -- with no experience teaching -- that's tough --but he showed you -- and he wasn't showing off, he kept it basic mostly ---till the end. I would recommend this class, yes, with a caveat, don't think you're going to edit like TJ right away ---he's moving fast, that's why the class is fairly short. My .02 cents --
