Social Media Marketing Q&A

I'd love to be able to answer any questions that anyone has on social media. And then for those of you who have just joined us in this segment who are going But wait, what's this, Mentor? Anything again, we're gonna re loop back around on that and kind of bring you up to date. Yes, ma'am. Um, I do have a question about Penn tragically, because it looks like Do you on leap in your own work on Pinterest yet? So you don't, um So what would your advice be for those of us starting out who don't necessarily have a huge body of work to pin create it, right? Like, let's say you could always start with a client information like talk about what you can wear to your engagement session. And even if you've only got one engagement session, make a quick video on, you know, here's a client of mine that especially the dress themselves, especially well for their engagement session. It works because x y z a B c d. Then the videos could be short, and they don't have to be super professional. I have a vide...

o up on my YouTube channel about what's in my bag, and I shot it myself in our studio like it's It's not supposed to be a creative, live level presentation. If you don't have an engagement session, get some friends to dress up, shoot it, make an educational video about it. Pin it right like you can make your own content without being disingenuous. You know, if you need to shoot. If you want Engagement rings for an engagement ring gallery, surely you've got friends that are married. Go snag their rings off of them, do some killer shots of them and put them up in interest gallery. You know you can make it yourself. It's just a little more annoying and takes a little more work. But, I mean, if if if dressing a friend of yours up in an engagement section outfit and doing a session for them create like 62 different ways to share it on social media, you'll be super glad that you did. Everybody else. They're all smiling in here. High Internet. Let's talk about social media on the Internet, which is Oh, now we're now we're in it. Let's go, which is pretty cool. So this one came from Becca G. Um and you were talking about about pinning your own work is she won't even once. So is it okay? I feel like it's kind of cheating, but is it Is it okay to do that in your own? Only Only you're only not pending anybody else's work. Why would I want to send anybody to anybody else's website? Pinterest for me is I'm trying to put my work in manageable bundles for people to look at. And I'm trying to have another way for people to find me. I have, like, four or five personal Pinteresque boards, that air secret that nobody will ever see because I don't want anybody to see. I have an inspiration board. I have a crap that I want to cook but will probably never cook board. And then I have a people who have houses that are better than mine board, right? I don't want people to see that we're not here t share and be personal besties. I'm trying to get you to look at my work on a professional level, so I actually never pin anything that isn't mine. Is it pure, shameless self promotion? Yes, that's not a bad thing. If you are a helpful resource, I mean, people could come to my Pinterest page. We're not dumb, you know? I'm trying to sell you something. Clients know that we're trying to get them to book us. But if you're being helpful along the way, then you're less of a salesperson, constantly just shoving your work in their face, saying, Hire me, hire me. You're making them trust you so that when it's time for them to hire you, they think of you first. For sure, yes, so say a trim photography would like to know. Do you add notes on your pins that say whether it's copyrighted material and or do not reprint? I mean, I don't have anything that on it, that on it that says, Do not reprint it links back to my site. So there's no mystery on where it came from. And it does have information like if you go in there and you dig around, it's got the venue name on it. It's got info on it, and each board has like if you click on, edit the board, so the information for the General Board it will say, like weddings at the Bowery Hotel as photographed copyright Susan Stripling. So, I mean, I don't put, you know, do not steal on every single thing. Um, if you go to my website, you can't steal it anyhow, So he locked it down. Um, yes. Are you Are you ready to take just questions are Well, yeah. I mean, if there are no more questions about social media will still have. Listen, we're here to talk about the mentorship. We're gonna talk about it in great deal. In super great detail. In the next segment, we're gonna get a lot of live image critiques. And also, for those of you who watch the 30 days the big over our king questions that people had when it was over, we're gonna talk about those two. So if there are questions about social media, bring them. And if it's just about the mentorship program in general, bring that to perfect. I would special with social media and then pop up and we'll talk a little bit about the mentorship program questions in the audience. Okay, So, um, let's see. This one says, Do you have a certain number of followers for analytics on Pinter rest in order to get the analytics. You have to have a certain amount of people One, right? Like you just have to have somebody following you. You can't analyze data that isn't there, but you don't need like thousands to get it If it's there in Europe. Intrest Okay on, um what advice would you have to folks that are a little timid into venturing into Interesting. I started one, but that I But then I read that they can have rights to all of your materials that you post. Is this a concern? It is not for me. Maybe it should be. Maybe I'm being very short sighted. But when you have to understand, when I go to Pinterest, I'm not actually looking at Pinterest, right? Like I'm not. I go there, I click on my name, I get into my board and I go to town. I'm not actually looking at what other people, if you like. Look at my Pinterest board. I think I follow like, three people because I'm not there to I don't need that. I'm not using it for what most people are using it for. I'm providing the content for people to see um, I you know, they want my advice for you. If you're kind of hesitant about doing it is just do it. Yes. Or you shamelessly pinning and promoting yourself off course you are. But your website is also shamelessly promoting yourself. And so is your facebook page. Like we're all here to sell something to somebody. You just have to do it in a way that is a little less sales e perfect. So I'm gonna come up and I would love Okay. Desert Island social media. You're on my, my quite right. So you're you got the internet, but you only get one, right? That's what I call your desert. I'm gonna hold into this scenario here. Okay? If I only had one. Yeah, because it's a timing thing, right? That's that's the deal. You you have time. Ok? Perfect. I would start with Facebook. I would then immediately do Twitter. Then I would go with pen trust. Then I would go with Instagram. Then I would go with Google, plus Okay. Perfect answer. Facebook. I mean, honestly, Facebook is still the undisputed king of social media. Like I checked it during the break. Seriously, I've checked it 32 times. Like since I've been under skinning, we're checking scrolling on my monitor. But no, I'm on Facebook, literally a bazillion times a day, a bazillion, Which is why our preferred social media way for all of everybody in this mentorship course to talk to each other is a Facebook group. There's a reason why it's let's kind of move over to that. So I want to let folks know just a little. We're doing a lot of housekeeping today, and if you haven't received the link, if you purchase the class and haven't received the link to the Facebook page, you will very, very quickly and I'm 11. The activity in their Facebook page is to confirm it's a private Facebook page. It is on Lee for people who are in the mentoring program. So if you're watching today live, you can't come play unless you're willing to commit to doing three months of spreadsheets. If you guys are new to what are called either private or closed groups on Facebook, it basically means that it's like it's on Lee, a chat room. So when you post in there, it won't post here little only post to the live feeds of others that are in that same with the responses. So it truly is a closed. You know, your I love cat videos, Facebook group. See what you post in here. It truly is private in the Onley way you can come in is if you're part of the mentorship program because it's a student community. Yeah, and one of the great things during the during this three months, you're gonna have office hours every Tuesday for 60 to 90 minutes. But let's be real. I love Facebook's. It'll probably closer to 90. I'm gonna come in and have office hours in the Facebook group, or I will answer questions that have been posted throughout the week and also be there for life chit chat. If you want to talk directly, post a question while I'm in there and we can have feedback. I'm not just gonna throw you out there with assignments for the month. I want to be able to help you with the tiny little bits of the assignments along. And I know it's same thing works here. You guys be a little bit proactive and read the questions so, you know, just to be sure that you haven't already. It's already not been asked or answered or all that just helps keep keep things kind of good and current and moving through. A lot of people will have very similar questions. So if you're like, I don't understand how to make a social media marketing calendar. But somebody asked that right underneath you. All of the answers might be going on in another thread, and you're just not seeing it. And I have a question. I don't know. Well, you're gonna have the videos that will have the homework assignments. Will we also be posting the homework assignments in the Facebook group? Great that way. Like to say things on air? Because when we put it out publicly and they have to do it, So can I say that creative? I was going to buy me a pony. Yes, actually, I want to manage your goat. Listen, I watch a lot of Facebook videos, okay? I want a little miniature goat that jumps

A couple years ago I attended WPPI and sat in on Susan's class. Out of all the classes I sat in on that year her's was in the top 2 for actual information and not just fluffy feel good hype. So I figured her Group Mentorship course would be a good one and it definitely has! A bit of background on me, I've been running my own wedding photography business for the last 6 years, 5 of those full time. I've taken tons of business courses and have circled back around to taking more classes to improve my craft. Susan's class focuses on both business and improving your craft. The big warning I have for this class is that there is a lot of homework, A LOT!!! But that is not a bad thing at all. I was swamped with weddings as the class started and was late to get to my homework but I'm so glad I didn't skip it because there was a lot of things I learned about my business just in answering her questions. I believe there were homework assignments every single day and while some are quick others will take awhile. So my recommendation is to take this course in your off season and use that down time to really concentrate on doing the homework and putting together questions to ask during the weekly chats. I was not able to do that as much as I wanted because of my schedule and I feel I did myself a disservice by not taking full advantage of what was offered. As another reviewer stated there were a lot of basic questions that were asked like how to get proper exposure in an image, etc. If you aren't sure how to do that then this class is not for you. I believe this class is geared towards those who are past the portfolio building stage and are looking to set their business up for success on the back end while improving their craft. Remember to ask questions, keep a notebook and write them down while doing your homework. Don't focus so much on what she uses for everything but why she uses it, if you understand the why you can apply that better to your business vs just the what. Again I would say to properly allocate time to take this class, treat it like a college class with weekly homework and study required. Don't buy it to watch later as you will lose out on most of what this class is about which is access to Susan for questions and feedback. Do the homework, I found the questions she asked us to answer led to a lot of revelations for myself in my business. Her questions led me to ask my own questions and review a lot of historical data for my business to get a better grasp on where I am. Luckily for me I'm doing way better then I thought ;)! Also I recommend for image critique to not just submit your best images, while we all like a pat on the back that won't make you better. She requested a mix of your best and areas of struggle. The images I submitted that I was struggling with are the ones where her advice will improve my craft.

I found this course helpful - but I also did all (well most) of the homework and I think to get the most out of this class you really need to be prepared to do the homework - which does require a reasonable time commitment. I found the business information (month 1) invaluable, and Susan was very, very active in the Facebook group, constantly answering our questions, which was great. Month 2 was a big image critique and I also found this very helpful. Month 3 was about editing and it was also a critique, which was helpful as well. Susan, Sandra (her assistant), Jen (her post production person) and CL worked very hard for us so we could get the best out of this course and I really feel I did get the most out of it that I could have gotten out of it. It is definitely worth it if you are willing to do the work. All of my questions were answered and I feel like my work is going to improve for the better now. If CL run any more mentorships such as this one, I would highly recommend them as I found I learned a lot more than in a regular class - because of the homework and the feedback (direct from Susan) on the homework. I am so glad that she was honest about my images because now I am seeing them in a new light (no pun intended).

Susan, simply amazing photographer, amazing woman, amazing business woman! If you want your but kicked then this the course for you! A kick start for your 'business', awesome .. honest .... brutal.... critique.... don't take it personally. This is a course for beginners and for those been in business for 4 + years. I have been in business for 4 years and this helped me seriously start from the beginning again on the business side of things and fine tune my processes. I learnt so much.... but was also great to know I was on the right track. For those beginning - oh I wish I had this as a guide 4 years ago!!! Enjoy! worth every penny! cheers Carissa www.capture-t-moment.com
