Exercise: Look to Your Passions to Inspire Your New Product Offering

So the last piece here is we want to look to your passions to inspire your new product offering this is our fun wildcard tiffany's, so excited. So this is where you get to say, you know what? I know? I've got a lot of options out there, but here's what's really getting me going right now, here's the other thing, a collection based on what her most excited about is going to be so much easier for you to market than one based on market need or customer requests, right? If you're excited about something that energy is going to come through in your launch sequence and it's gonna get your customers excited. There's a reason that my contra collection has been selling so well for me because I am so freaking excited to set big, giant stones all the time, right? It's fun and so that's gonna bring way more energy. And so a couple questions for you to think about this and I think it's pretty easy. I think when you start to think about what you're most excited about it's not hard to find it, but a ...

couple of questions that you could ask yourself, is there a new technique or a material you've been wanting to play with something you really want to try? Or maybe there's, a new product category that you'd love to explore? And really, at the end of the day, the question is, what gets you into your studio at six a m or if you're a night owl, what keeps you there past midnight? We'll keep you there till six a m the next morning, right? So when I was developing my contra collection, I was working on the first release for that I was literally in my studio, like, six a m every day because I could not wait to get toe work. That's what we're looking for in this piece, what is the thing that's going get you there early or keep you there late that's really going to make you excited to go back to your studio again and again? And so this is your wild card piece. This is where we really get to declare, ok, this is what I'm excited about, and then we're gonna talk about how to mesh it with those other two circles, so I want to have you guys share really quickly, and I'm going to go through our studio audience and ask a couple of them on ben, you guys and I'll share online with our create to make hashtag what do you most excited about working on next? Because everyone is excited about painting awesome sarah, I have painting, but the other thing because I have a background and interior design and this has been in the back of my head for a long time. How I can take those most popular images and create pillows and iron and home decor you're excited about home deck you have it, karen adding gold, I did a couple of little tiny trips with apps cycled gold on silver on, and I was really excited about it, but I think that sounds like just have fun. Um, I'd like to move more into higher end art jewelry. Yeah, I want to launch a ross stone and solid gold collection looking forward to, uh, rainbow life, some collections I've been thinking about for about five years, ok? And on the new platform fantastic getting more calligraphy, prince fun, nice unraveling and still at pitching on silver. Cool in the same thing. Yes, I'm trying to find ways to combine enamel and stones and silver and ways that is different. You see a lot of that? Yeah, a new hearing types using new materials and then getting into making necklaces to I've been having a lot of people ask me for necklaces, and I actually wear necklaces more than hearings. So I don't even know why I started out with hearings for some reason, a lot of us thought, like I hardly ever wear hearings and that's where I started to, so all right, so we'll come back later and look at some of our shares on our create to make hashtag, but for now, I want to give you guys your homework as we head into our break, which is, I want you to make lists of these three pieces, so I want you to really sit and write down what's working in your current product line, where the gaps and what are you most excited about exploring next? Remember, do this without editing. This is your massive brain dump right now, everything you can think of for all of these things goes on the list, and if you haven't already remember that we have this great facebook group to make a living selling what you make facebook group it's free to join when you are a c p for this class, get in there and brainstorm with your fellow colleagues as well. Talk out some ideas asked them where they think they see the gaps in your product line. Look at those start to make your list, and then in the next lesson we're going to find the overlap, so don't worry about the overlap yet just make those lists. And we're going to find the overlap of those three elements. To set the goal for your next collection. We're going to gather inspiration and find your strengths to generate ideas for your distinctive product line. And you're going to evaluate your new product ideas for marketplace success.

This class was absolutely fantastic. Even though I've had my etsy shop for a while, it has always been something on the side for me while I was attending school full-time. Now that I have the time to really focus and commit to my business I can finally take the steps I need to build up my business and make some real revenue. Because of this class I now know those exact steps to push my shop with full speed ahead. Megan is fully engaging as well, which made the class easy and fun to follow along. Great class, Megan!

Megan Auman is such an amazing artist, craftsman, strategist, and communicator. Everyone trying to make a living selling what they make needs to see this. I think this was my favorite class in the series. Getting such incredibly thoughtful, thought-provoking and concise information from an academically-trained fine artist and teacher was UH-MAZE MAZE!
