Smart Objects and Multiple Layers
So we're going to take a look at the real world project that I did for a mac consulting company in boulder, colorado. Okay, so here was my mission the double click here and open it my mission was to make mac assists logo look like the new startup logo on a mac apple changed the log in logo okay, it used to be just black but they made it uh gray and they made it look like it was in boston to the screen by adding an inner shadow. Okay, this is the logo that I was given to create that effect with ok? So he like you have got this logo but I don't know how tio ad that treatment tio update it so that it matches the current backlog and screen so I asked him if he had illustrator and he did and I asked him if his logo was created an illustrator and it was so I had victor's toe work with so my job and photo shot was to figure out a super easy wakes I had very little time to do this since I was getting ready to come here I had to make this logo really light so change the color of it and then I n...
eeded to apply and inner shadow to sounds pretty straightforward well it's going to take several layers to get that done so I was able to do it with a smart object okay, so I'm gonna go ahead and launch adobe illustrator over here, and we'll come back to the document. I did all this in and show you how I did it s o will temporarily turn off with the logo was supposed to look like, and we can see over here that I was indeed able to make that happen. So what we've got going on over here is his logo in the lighter color with an inner shadow, and that perfectly matches the new log in screen. Then I've got a white, solid color, phil layer in the background, but this is a smart object, so let's, take a look at what's going on with that smart object, zoom back out, we're gonna double click to temporarily expand the smart object. Here you can see what I did toe lighten the logo. I used a hugh saturation adjustment layer to get that gray color that I needed it to be. I also brought in that victor as a smart object in case I needed to do any sizing changes to it. I didn't want to risk losing edge quality, so that's, what I did, so we're going to come over here, we're going to recreate this, but we're gonna do it in a little bit of a different way we're gonna copy and paste from illustrator over here to a funny shot document so we're going to make a new father shot document just checking to see what size so we'll choose file new or press commander control in I just want a regular old image I don't need it that big so I'll make it four by four and click ok so now we've got a document onto which we can start creating our logo so we're going to pop over to illustrate or now so much use file open and open his original art so that we can copy paste it aereo so here's the original are an illustrator could I have changed the color over here? Yes, but let's say you don't know how to use illustrator okay, so this technique is twofold. First I'm showing you that you can copy paste from illustrator into photoshopped place a smart object but I'm not here to teach you how to use illustrator so I'm not gonna so what I'm done is I have taken the move to an illustrator, its selection told rather and I have just drawn a box around the artwork itself and I'll hide those guides and I'm simply copying it to my clipboard by pressing commander control c I could have also gone up to the select menu and illustrator and chose all that would select the artwork as well, so we'll copy now we'll hide illustrator because we're finished with it and we're going to come over here to our document and we're gonna press command or control v and here's that little dialogue box so photo shop says, hey, I see you're trying to paste a victor what would you like me to do with it? Would you like me to pace? It is a smart object? Would you like it to be pixels? Do you want it to be a path which would just be an outline of the shape or do you want me to create a whole new layer um and put it on the shape player? So we're going to use smart object and do any re sizing that you need to you? We don't need to for this particular project and will press return, so now we've got that vector on its own layer with transparency. Ok? So now let's get to work on changing the color because we need to match that super light gray. So we're going to go down here to our adjustments many that the bottom of the layers panel put the half black, half white circle and we learned yesterday on our full day of adjustment layers that we can use you saturation to change color when this situation all we really need to do is change lightness so we can drag our lightness slider to the right until we get that great color that we need all right, so we're almost done, but now we need to add an inner shadow so you would think that you could simply click on the artwork, right? Go down to your layers panel, click the fx button shoes in her shadow come over here and set the capacity and do all kinds of stuff come over here your document and drag it around why can't we see it? If we click ok and look at what's going on our inner shadow is being applied to something that's black you're never going to see it because the color changes happening on a whole another layer so are on ly path to getting this done is too stuff both of these layers into a smart object and apply the inner shadow to the smart object because you can try all day long to enter in a shadow to that hugh saturation adjustment layer and you're not gonna be able tio so we'll go ahead and throw away that inner shadow by clicking and dragging into the trash can and now we will shift or commander control click to activate both of the layers controller right click to the right of the layer names they convert to smart object now we can add that inner shadow so we'll come back down here to the effects panel she was in her shadow todo so you could of course dragging around and tweak it to make it look like you want maybe drop the capacity of it a little bit so that's how you can use smart objects to apply layer styles to multiple layers by creating a smart object out of it any questions on that one let's run through that again real quick that would be great so close all these guys up I'm gonna cheat and look at the settings for my inner shadow angle of one twenty three that's why I need forty one twenty three ok so close this guy so it's created a new document I'm just going to use a preset and then change the measurements of it here we go now let's bring in our artwork we could choose file place just as easily as we copied and pasted from illustrator case of food shops going to ask where does this artwork live and then you can navigate right to it if you encounter this style box, go ahead and click ok artwork is in the coming in momentarily e or not there you she first up the scenes you're going to want to resize it we don't need to in this case we could find a press return now we need to set about changing the color of this logo so we can do that with the huge saturation adjustment layer put the half black half white circle the bottom of your layers panel dragged the lightness, cider to the right so they get that nice start gray now, let's shift, click to activate the other layer control or right click near the layer name to convert it into a smart object. Now we can add our inner shadow there you, mike, who is the president of mca system? Boulder could not believe I did it as fast because he had he knows photo shop, and he had struggled with it for about a solid day and just had completely given up, you know, and I did it in about fifteen minutes and send it back to him with instructions on how to do it, and it just blew his mind, but his he could get the color to change. He was trying to fill he's, trying to create a selection of the logo, fill it with the graham, another layer which just pixelated, you know, the edges, and then he couldn't figure out howto make the inner shadow happen, and he was just amazed that you could do it this way. But this would work with anything that you need to apply layer style tio that lives on multiple layers. Any questions on that? We just have a couple of questions, and one is from hands on one in arizona? What if the artwork has more than one color? Well, that really doesn't come into play when I mean, in reference to the smart objects that's, more of a question about how would you change the color of the logo, which really isn't the purpose of our class e I would highly suggest yesterday's day on adjustment layers it is all the different ways to change colors exactly, and I think that's what this other question is related to yesterday so great, yeah, unlike say, if you have illustrator and you know how to use, it definitely would have done the color change over an illustrator, but what if you don't have it? And the other point of me popping into illustrator, even though I didn't really teach you how to use it was to show you that you can copy and paste vectors straight from illustrator into photo shop and just make sure that you choose smart object from the resulting dialog box that you get, so that is a helpful thing, especially for graphic designers. You'll do that all day long. One more thing about that that I want to show you is let's say that I needed to edit that logo and illustrator for whatever reason, okay, we'll go ahead and put our drop our inner shadow back on it, we'll call that good, so let's say, oh, I don't know, we need to delete that little line from the artwork itself yes, we could hide it with the layer mass but my point is here to show you how you can trigger illustrated open this file from the smart object that we place ok, so we're gonna double click to expand this smart object temporarily okay, so here's our hugh saturation just mint layer that we used to change the color and here's our original art well if we control our right click we can see that we have all kinds of things that we can do this menu with smart objects one of them is edit contents if you own the program that was created to make the original art photo shop will open it in that program don't pay attention to this dialog box right here is just saying hey I think this has been changed over and photoshopped it's going to say ok there's our original art I'll hide the guides let's say that mike changes his logo he wants to get rid of that little piece I can delete it I'm not going to choose file say it as I'm not going to rename this picture I'm not gonna put it in a different place on my hard drive I'm going to choose a flat save so takes command asked her control iss save it close it come back over here in the photo shop document in it updates that's pretty darn slick especially for graphic designers ok so let's just do that again I'm gonna go ahead and delete this smart object because we've changed it and going to delete the smart object because we've changed it over in the temporary document that's why they were in the psb here are like okay so here we are you know it's fun so we're going to expand the smart object here's our original art that we placed either by copying and pasting from illustrator or by choosing file place not by dragging it from many bridge or your desktop into the funds not work space because this is a true vector and for whatever reason dragging vectors into the photo shop workspace does not create a smart object out of them like it does raster images you think it would but it doesn't so let's go ahead and double click to expand that groups oh that is our that's our artwork it's not invested smart object ok so you can either open it for editing by double clicking it's thumbnail or by control clicking or right clicking and choosing edit contents illustrator's already running there's our file all had the guides choose something to change don't choose file save as choose file save click ok close the illustrator file come back over here to photo shop in the change updates now for the super confusing part does that mean you're like holy does that mean that that illustrator file is now different if we open that original file, I'll come over here outside of the shop to do it if we open that original file, I'm just doing a pretty on a macintosh by pressing the space bar it's still fully intact isn't that people so you don't even have to worry about saving different versions of it the on ly instance of that a vector art that changes the one that photoshopped memorized when we brought in the vector art, we didn't have to create another version of that logos now we we've been efficient with their hard drive space, haven't we? We don't have two versions of that illustrator following her hard drive. All we did was change the instance of it inside of our photoshopped document because we had the wherewithal the brain is a smart audience isn't that amazing? Any questions on that? Ok, you go from cyrus would like to know can that trick work on art? That was a hand drawn and then scanned into be brought into photo shop not in this manner ok, the reason we were able tio pick apart that victor and delete little pieces of it and do that kind of thing was because it was a vector, but you can still get to the program that created let's say, for example, you brought in a raw file if you choose to edit its contents it's going to open up that program camera raw for further editing light room so on and so forth so that's really not a that's a different thing but you could certainly bring in an artwork as a smart object but you can't trigger it to open an illustrator because it's not a vector it was a scan so if you edit the original illustrator file then it doesn't update in the stack correct if you trigger the editing from within photoshopped from the smart object thie original file will not change ok if you go open the original file an illustrator and change it and save it then you've changed that pile the only way to keep this live on the fly updating updating the instance of that art going on is by triggering it from photo shop from the smart object ok, so if I just go change that illustrator file on my own it's not going to change in my photo shop document which I think is what you're asking but if I open illustrator by cheesing edit contents then it will update and it will not change the original illustrator file confusing but cool any other questions on that I think we're good I think this is the same question but when we just verify this is from light vision so what happened and what happens to the original photo shop file when we open it as a smart object? Is the original still intact or we better say that with a new name. Well, I'm not sure exactly what that person is saying. Are we talking about a vector specifically or we're just talking about anything you make a smart object out of, you know what number that I'm looking at this and reading and again, I think it might have been just in general, and so that was something that we talked about earlier, okay? It simply doesn't matter if that original is still hanging around because it's it's not that it's embedded per se into the photo shop document, but for the shot memorizes everything about it so that you can reopen that instance of it in the program in which it was created camera raw illustrator edit it, and then those updates will come back into photoshopped. But that doesn't mean in any way that that original file is still hanging around on your hard drive, or that it's going to be that file's enemy change when you updated in this way, it's not think of it as you're you're plopping an instance of that artwork into photo shop and you can do all kinds two things to that instance without changing its original file, even if that original found no longer lives on your hard drive, but that instance is still in that smart object and you can still get at it and change it any more questions? Yes, looks like cool crew would like to know. So if we work on a vector, how do we get to that updated version again later? Do we have to close and save as a psd and then we'd have to files? Yeah, so let's say that we've done this work right here. I'm gonna go ahead and save my temporary document. That photo shop opened for me. We'll choose file save because we don't want to move, it will close it and here's our logo. Okay, now, let's, say, for whatever reason you really do need to get at, you need to have that artwork now to use for whatever reason, we could simply expand the smart object, ok? And I could come over here to the victor smart object choose at it contents, and from here I could choose file save as and if I give that a different name, or just by choosing file, say it as then, I really will be creating another version of this illustrator file if I needed it for whatever reason. So to me, that feels like you're working more efficiently because you're not creating multiple instances or multiple versions of the same file on your hard drive, you're only doing that if you absolutely need to you, so you're editing instances, but if you do you need to create that hard file let's say you need to send this to another designer to somebody else to do something else with even his pop it open from the smart object and then create another version of that man will only but otherwise things aren't being duplicated which is nice thank you suffer bearing with us as we all know it's kid this is really hard stuff very confusing trying to figure out what exactly is going on here but if you can think of it in the form of instances when I was in college were forced to learn flash so I know all about instances but that really is kind of what's happening here photo shop is your editing an instance of it? You're not creating another version that's great. Thank you think we can keep going? All right. I was so happy that I got this project to do before the class because I was thinking what what kind of real world example can I show for that particular thing that involves illustrator and layer styles and uh the good folks at mac assist really help me out with that? Ok, so now let's look at another use for smart objects so what we've done so far is we've used them tio run filters and un destructively we've used them to rent filters on multi layer documents non destructively we have used them to create uh we've used them to run filters on video, and we've used them to incorporate victor artwork that we've been edited and then had it update itself in the photo shop document. Now what we're going to do is we're going to use them to swap out content. We're going to make a photo template, okay? So let us say had love these pictures. Let us say that you work for a diving magazine or what have you okay graphic designer on a diving magazine and, you know, columnists for magazines can be pretty flaky. I write for macworld eye candy flaky. So let us say that you're constantly having to create new head shots of new columnist, okay, you might want to create a headshot template so that you have prepared the image one time, but then you can hot swap the content out in any other photo that I plop into. The smart object is going to take on all the attributes of the original one that I created it with. So for example, we can look at my layers panel here and we can see that, ok, I've got a black and white adjustment layer going on toggle it often on that must be where the color changes coming from, then over here I've got a smart object, and I know it's a smart option because it has a little badge then I've I see a vector mask over here I know it's a vector mass because I'm pointing my cursor at it and photo shop is talented specter mass but I also know that it's a victor masse because the masks to part is not black it's gray so I know it's vectra mask I can also see from the shape that well that must be for my rounded edges air coming from on my photo so let's say these air going in the print magazine or even on the on the magazine website so we've got this nice rounded ends with a transparent background down here actually okay, well a filter has been run lens correction well, that must be where that dark edge of vignettes coming from okay, so you do all this one time to one photo and then when you get new columnists, you simply control clicker, right? Click to the right of the smart object name and you choose replace contents. Now we're going to navigate to where the new headshot lives let's say this is our new columnist poof! We've applied all the same attributes to the same photo, so imagine you say this thing as a template that doesn't mean you're saving it in a different way you just name it a template name and something that's meaningful to you and you can always make sure that the same exact look and feel is being applied to those new photos as you need to create them so you can imagine the power of this with a few artistic shots from say your last wedding shoot if you want to apply this color overlay black and why dark edge vignette rounded corner effect to several photos from the same shoot you do it once and then you simply swap out the content and that smart object this is really why are opening graphic when we started talking about all this the one I made was a box with a bunch of file formats coming into it because you really can't think of it like a container smart object is a container you can swap out content you can edit those contents okay so let's look at shopping in another picture we're going to control or right click to the right of the layer name she's replaced contents and this time we're going to bring in this dude but the size of the image is way different or rather the resolution of this one was lower than the other photos that I worked with to the pixels or bigger okay, what can we do? Well, all you have to do is resize the layer content now if we just choose free transform right now and do our re sizing we're going to resize the mask is well, let me show you that so when you use the free transformed tools on a smart object photo shop is going to temporarily turn off any filters that you may have applied to them on lee for the sake of screen refreshing and previews, they'll come right that once you do you're re sizing with the transform bounding box, so we'll say ok, the shop is going to give us re sizing handles eventually oh, you know, I can't see them there they're press command zero or control zero to fit to screen and photo shop is going to resize the documents so you can see all four handles now we're going to hold on our shift key because we don't want our diver to get poppy job they're squished so healthy on shift and because we don't want to have to miss with all four corners let's also add the option key are altana max so that we're re sizing from the inside out, which means we can describe one of the corner handles in this draggin word but look what's happening it's not only re sizing my layer content, which is what I want but it's also re sizing the mask, which is what I don't want, so the simple fix for that escape to get out of that has him back in what we're going to do is unlinked the smart object layer content from its mask before we resize it and we're gonna go over all this again and we're gonna build this template from scratch came to showing you a couple little options so we click the little chain link icon in between the smart object in the mask that is new in c s five okay you cannot link masks too smart object and see us foreign earlier for reasons known only to adobe so now since we've broken the smart object content and the mask apart, we need to tell photoshopped which one we want to resize so we're going to click to activate the fund nail of the layer content not mask the layer content I will show you a bug and photoshopped right now if you want to see it if I click the mask the activation outline does not go away from the later content even though that mask is active so now if I click back on the layer content feels like you're stuck in a loop where both of them are active it's very strange it's it's the serious bugs so that happens if you're in a situation where both of them are active just click the mask again and then now let me she's free transformer only gonna be re sizing the layer content not the mask that's a little bit of the bug ok, so now we bring up or some and free transform rather by pressing commander control t we can't see our handles so we're going to use our keyboard shortcut of command zero on a mac or control zero on a pc, which is just triggering from the view menu fit on screen that's all that is, and in doing so, photo shop is resize the document just enough. We can see all four handles, and now we're going toe shift option or shift all on a pc drag did commit there we go shift option or shift all on a pc dragged to resize that photo press return when you get it just right and then photoshopped turns the preview of our smart filters back on. So I'm showing you that teo imply flexibility with these kinds of smart, object based photo templates that it doesn't even matter. If you're working with photos of different sides, you can still swap them in edit them so that their work so let's close this guy at and let's build that together, okay, let's, say here's, the first head shot we're working with, okay, so you're the photographer or you're the designer, you need to give this photo a treatment onto which you're going to apply to several other photos that could you do this using them in action? Sure, today is not deep dive actions if deep dive, smart objects so and actions are persnickety, you know, if you don't have the exact same conditions with an action if files or name differently if you happen to capture file names in an action or layer names their help a lot of things that can break out agins so there is a fair amount of trouble shooting that is necessary when you're working with actions so if you're really great at that fantastic this is another way to do it that needs no trouble shooting ok, so let's apply all of our special attributes to this photo ok, well we've been told that we need to give it rounded edges so we can do that it doesn't really matter which one of these things um you do first we could have opened it as a smart object okay? But since we didn't remember to do that we can just go ahead and she's filter convert for smart filters or we could command or control clicker right click near the layer name and say convert smart object okay now let's go ahead and add are rounded edges will grab our rounded right tangle tool like we did earlier go ahead and leave the radius set to forty that controls how around those edges are we'll make sure that are shaped will hear is set to path move because we only want the outline we don't want to be creating any more layers so then we will click and drag to draw our frame around our diving girl and can you imagine looking that good while you're snorkeling? I just can't believe how good she looks like her hair is perfect. There is a little bit of a problem now there's water in the goggles, maybe that's a nasty e I saw that and I felt a little bit better about the human yelling I don't like that give honest or clean oh she's got water in the goggles, so now we're going to command or control click the layer mask icon to add a victor mask just in case we need to resize that frame if we wanted now let's, add a limbs, limbs correction filter so well she's filter lens correction we'll click the custom to have and see us five and six grab the vignette slider, drag it to the left if you're in an earlier version, you've still got the vigna slider you just don't have to click the custom tam click ok now let's go at our creative color treatment, so we'll do that by clicking the half black, half white circle. The bottom of the layers pale and choosing black and white photoshopped drops the color out of our image and we're going to add a nice color tint though photo shot wants to add a c p a color tint because it's it's popular, we can simply click the little swatch beside the tent check box and we can change it to anything we want since we're dealing with water, why don't we have blue tent or turquoise e case I'm just telling photo shop what range of colors I want with this bar over here and then from this box I can click to tell photoshopped how light or how dark I want that color overlay to be your tent rather look okay close up the properties panel now we're ready to start swapping in content okay, so we can't control or right click near the layer name choose replace content come over here to our next head shot or next photo from our shoot and click place now let's bring in another photo one that needs to be resized click place we're gonna unlock the layer content from its mask make sure that thie active little corner marks here are around the layer content remember that bug and photo shop where if you click the the vector mask, then you've got both of them active. Don't let that throw you just click them ask again to make that outline go away and now we can summon free transformed by pressing commander control t we can't see our edge handles, so we compress commander control zero to fit on screen and now we're going to shift option or shift ault drag one of the corner handles inward to resize that photo to our template frame, we're going to press return when we're finished and we've got our new columnists headshot or our wedding treatment ok, let's do that one more time real quick and then we're going to break for lunch since I mentioned weddings here's a wedding template ok, so here's my smart object I can control are right click near the layer name she's replaced contents come over here to another happy couple. These images are from photo leah's collection my image is a little bit smaller we could summon free, transform, go ahead and press and hold shift option on a macro shift altana pc and just resize that image just a little bit so it matches our template. Now, if you're having a heart attack at home because I'm actually enlarging pixels here, just don't worry about it photoshopped has gotten so good at that kind of thing, especially in cia six that if you're enlarging just a little bit like I did hear, you are probably not going to be able to tell the quality difference between the original size and what I enlarged okay, yes it's going down in quality a tiny bit, but I doubt your eyes would be able to recognize it anyway, so here's another one we can replace contents again, another happy couple from fa tolia and I have quickly added the same treatment to all those photos so let's close that template and build it we've got three minutes before lunch and we can do it you go ok so its collapse are many bridge by double clicking it's panel in larger photo a bit and let's start applying those attributes so we're going to go ahead and make sure this is a smart object again we could have chosen file openess marin object or we could have chosen file place we didn't think about that so let's go ahead and control or right click to the right of the layer name and she's converge a smart object or trot up to the filter menu and choose convert for smart filters okay now let's start having fun with it will add a black and white adjustment layer we might tweak the contrast to so little bit here and there for fun here we go and now let's tack on and oh so romantic sepia colored tint now let's click on our smart object and let's add the romantic soft edge vignette the elin's correction filter click the custom tab slide the vigna all the way to the left don't worry that you're not seeing the cpi effect here that's because this filter is running underneath the cpi a click ok now we're all set you will wisely say this cheese file save as we're going to stick it on your desktop here and we will say, uh, smith wedding weeding smith wedding sepia template that way you can get back to it. Your biggest challenge will be not saving over it, but it doesn't matter because even if we replace the contents of this more object by right clicking or control clicking links to its name and we choose replace contents swap in some more photos it kind of doesn't matter if we save over it because we can still keep swapping out that content. So what come down here to our photo template she's a new picture from the same shoot so you know that your color and lighting conditions are the same if you need to resize it someone free transform my person commander control t shift up ction drag outward or shift all to drag out we're on a pc skewed him over if you need tio press return save the photo out is a j peg for the client replaced the contents save the j peg out save the photo out for the client say this document and you've always got it to go back to you yes is already a batch operate that, um process like I guess kind of like an action, but would there be a like a batch you could run to do all that to replace the contents, you could create an action out of it that's the only way I know to do that, so our question is, can we automate the process of swapping out those photos? You could with an action? So you create your template, and then you would start recording the action with the active control, clicking, replacing the contents, I think that would work and will open up image number f were working in photo of the folder number seven rather photo templates case you're following along at home so here is our happy couple from our wedding shoot, so we can go ahead and start applying attributes to it so let's, go ahead and add a black and white adjustment layer, and you can play around with the contrast of the sliders, if you like, but let's, go ahead, turn on the tent check box for the oh so romantic sepia overlay, and if he remembered, open the sandwich as a smart object. Great, but if you don't like, I don't think you can just convert that image into a smart object on the fly, so you can either control clicker, right? Click to the right of the layer name and choose, convert to smart object, or you can try it up to the filter many and cheese convert for smart filters, it doesn't matter which one that you do, so now that we've turned it into it was mara object we can run our linds correction filter on it non destructively so we can talk back up to the filter menu choose lens correction and from the hong kong being dialog box that takes over your entire screen. If you're in c s five or cia six, you're gonna go like you're going to locate the custom tab and then dragged the net slider to the left. If you're in and see us for, I don't think cs three as well you don't have that custom taps you can just go straight to that vignette slider, go ahead and click ok, now we've got a nice dark edge mint, yet we can save this as our photo template so we can apply the same effects to more photos. So go ahead and choose files, save as we're just gonna block this one on our desktop and from the format menu, be sure to choose photo shops that's going to keep all of your layers intact and give it a name that's meaningful to you so we could say for this one that it isthe well, more wedding shoot templates, for example and then we can click save and that way we want when we want to apply this effect to more photos from the same photo shoot, then all we have to do to swap out layer content so now let's, go ahead and do that was control or right? Click to the right of the layer name and again, please do you pay attention to where you're clicking because different menus will open, so you want to click to the right of the layer name and will choose replace contents, the photo shots going to ask you where that content lives that you want to replace it with so we can navigate to our folder and find those other images so here's another one also from fa tolia. And if you need to resize it just a little bit like we said earlier, don't worry about it too much. This is not going to cause a huge loss in quality so we can summon free transformed by pressing command tianna, matt or control t on a pc and then to make sure that we don't squish squash are happy couple here, we're going to hold down the shift key ad option on a mac or a halt on the pc so that we're sizing from the inside out, and then we're going to resize it just enough so that fits within our template. Yes, tell photoshopped that you're finished groups when you re sizing because it has a one track mind while it has an active bounding box, you can't do anything else. So now it's skip this photo over by pressing veed activate move tool and I'm holding down the shift key so that I don't scoop the photo vertically I'm restricting the move to be horizontal so then we've got another image so if you want to say that out as a super high quality j peg or highest quality rather j peg so that you can give to the client then you could do that at this point and then continue swapping out the content to apply to more photos so smart objects make creating photo temple it's so easy so so easy and it really is a great way to ensure that you're applying the exact same effect all the different photos do we have any questions on creating these kinds of photo templates? And we did a little bit of this before we went to the break were there any questions from the internet that we need to address before we start working with raw files and it looks like j r j r allen you're alinsky something like that I don't think it wants to know how do you avoid losing the bin yet when you move the smart object it moves off screen? What was the question one more time says how do you avoid losing the bin yet when you move the smart object said it moved off screen I guess they're doing it along with you okay, I see what you're saying. Well, it really it doesn't look like he continued to go off the screen to me here, but you could apply the vignette after if you want to. If you got a bunch of photos that are really that different in size, that you need to worry about that than you could do that as an additional step, you know, he wouldn't include that in your template, but it isn't maybe could also pop back into the lens correction filter that's another great thing that I don't think we've mentioned yet about running filters on smart objects is now on lee. Can you double clicked open? They're blending options, you know that? Well, I comments to the right of the field, her name to get at filter, blend moods and opacity control, but you can also get back into the filter dialog box if the filter had a dialogue box, apps, condition and not all of them deep. So if we wanted to get back into the lens correction filter, we could just double click its name and the layers panel, and we can open that back up and go to our custom tab and continue to tweak that you could increase the midpoint if you've had to move your if you had to move your photo over in your template in your vignette, starts toe fade away on one edge. And you could pop back in here and increase the midpoint. Which is going to widen it a little bit now would probably take care of that. You don't want to be bringing in pictures that are, you know, completely different aspect ratios for the same template, the only one to be doing a little bit of transforming and a little bit of moving them around as little as possible to make the template work for you.
