Introduction

I just want to say hi again, high, high. And And we were naming all the people, all the different countries. We have relatives in Australia who were tuning in yesterday. So that was really friends. I wanted to say Hi. Hi, Nadia. Very All right, good. Sorry. Oh, and then we turn ourselves on the go. Last night when we were watching the replay on the Ustream was really fun looking at it on my phone. Can I say it really fast? Thank you as well. I got the sweetest email from Vanessa K. Who sent me a really sweet thank you letter. I don't know her personally, but just about yesterday's workshop saying that it was helpful and that she's now being asked a lot to teach workshops and that she's excited to start teaching her own. And she gave a little something special for because I had all of so much her little puppy a little gift for all of and I just it made my whole day to get such a nice letter from her. And she said, Thank you for encouraging me to photograph her more meaning her puppy, an...

d that she said, I hope you feel supported by all of us out there and on set. So I appreciate that. And I just wanted to think All right, already. I'm gonna let you know what we're gonna talk about. Sorry. Oh, this is an introduction way. What we're gonna be covering today, actually. Well, this is over the next two days with a lot of this is about today. But the first section, we're gonna be delving a little more touchy feely. And it's just about sort of figuring out who we are as people like discovering our why and why we do what we do. I think if we understand that inherently who we are, it helps us to have a more fulfilling life. And also Teoh end up where we want to be, and sometimes we don't even know what that is. So joy has a great group exercise that we're gonna dio and also encourage people out there to also participate with us to kind of help us get down to sort of why we're doing what we're doing or what's important to us. And how toe had I think that when we go back to the work life balance, part that that's gonna help us to fear out sort of what we need to focus on and what kind of things to prioritise and how to make it all make sense and then ultimately live the happier life that were the everybody wants. So that's gonna be a big part of that. And then I want to touch a little on high tech vs High Touch. So being online and having an online presence and being savvy with your computer and everything is digital is so important. But then not letting that part of it swallow us up and understanding that the high touch part, the human aspect and how to incorporate them both. So we have. I think sometimes we get so mired down in being online or having a Web presence that we kind of let our own human presence go. So having a little talk about that, then we want to talk about creative marketing, which is something that we are both passionate about, and we have brought in a lot of ideas that friends of ours other photographers have done. And we're gonna share events with you that we've done that were successful and tell you sort of how we thought of them and how they came about and different ways that we marketed them and and why they worked and even some things that didn't work and why they didn't work. And for that part, we would love Ah, lot of participation from you because I know a lot of you have done certain things to that have worked, or maybe even things that haven't worked like. I don't think it's bad to talk about failures. I think it's good and discuss why things maybe didn't work and how and together as a team how we can build each other up. We're gonna talk more about sales things. Joy had mentioned yesterday that sales are happening constantly and not necessarily in a key way. But obviously, if you want this to be a business and not a hobby, there has to be sales and all, and you have to be making money to make it a business. So it's important to understand sales and also to be able to to make them less intimidating. A lot of people love photography and to really hate the asking for money, part or perhaps undercharged or just don't really understand how to charge or how to make it valuable. We all value photography so much, and I think that sometimes, especially now with a digital photography, has made it's so accessible to people, sometimes they will. Well, why should I pay professional when I've got an IPhone? That's excellent. So I think a lot of understanding how to make photography valuable again, or to have your clients understand how there's a value to it and why they should hire you specifically to be their photographer. Then we're going to go out and have alive she and we're gonna, um we're going to go to Denny Park and shoot a real family, and I think that's gonna be exciting because I'm going to be tethered and shooting with the wire attached to me, which I've never done before. So that'll be interesting. But the reason I shows an outdoor sort of regular park to shoot in, as opposed to shooting inside here and lighting it is because I think that might resonate more with a lot of our viewers. There's a lot of people who decide I just love photography. I love to photograph Children and families and then and a lot of people don't have a studio. In fact, I think most people don't have a studio and there is something more riel about shooting outside. I think a lot of people are working alone and it's just them in their camera. There's not a lot of assistance. And a lot of people, you know prefer natural light and or flat out afraid of lighting. People don't know how to use their flash. I don't want to use their flash. And I think that I wanted to do something that was a little more spontaneous and real and that a lot of people are also doing so My plan for it is just, too. I am gonna be Mike to you here. I'll try to speak out lot of what I'm thinking and then, But my plan is to sort of let you know what I look for in terms of light or location posing and how we work with Children. We're gonna talk about that a little in the keynote as well, like things to be mindful of things let go things that are important again. I know all of you have been photographing, and I would love any feedback for you to see, like only tried that it doesn't work, you know, or like you know what this awesome track we did. It works every time we're open to those kind of things. And I'd love to have any of you participate in the discussion to with us because and I always say this before any talk is that I am speaking from my own experience. And if things that have worked or not worked for me or or the way that I do it, there's so many ways to do things. And there's so many different programs that people use and things at work. It's there's no one correct answer. So I'm just sharing with you, sort of where I've come from. And that's why I'm really happy to have it be more synergistic and hear what's worked for other people. Because maybe what makes sense for me? A. What works for me doesn't necessarily make sense for you or work for you, but it doesn't mean it's wrong. It's just different. And I think it's good for us to, you know, be able to share everything and then and my hope for today is that there'll be little pieces and little nuggets that resonate with you Or you could say like, Oh, that's greater. Yeah, I do that. I knew that. I knew that. And like, it's sort of, you know, will be little pieces that come and go like that. So you think for today that's basically recovering. The rest of the slide is about, But this is where the next two days, so right, right. Because, um, what to look forward to right after the shoot active issue, we're gonna I'll show you a quick edit, like So we're gonna show you what we look for when we're doing the edit. And then I'm gonna use my presets and some of the textures and just show you how I use them to do really fast editing and toe work up my work up my images and enhance things. And then I'm really excited about Joy's part. She's gonna do it pro select demonstration. Because for our family clients, we use Pro Select, which is a program that allows you to project your image is larger than life upon a screen. And we're gonna talk about why we feel that works and how we use it. And I think a lot of you have ever used purse electorate. Is anyone not use it? Okay. So good. Have enough. Awesome. That'll be great. So So I'm excited about that part that that's happening tomorrow. And, um and I think on balance, it all Yeah, we've got that figured out, right? Right. So be sure to stick around for that joint master balance, so no, but that we're gonna wrap it up again, probably with them. The exercise that we're doing, we're probably refer back to that. And yet, like you were saying, all that mentioned, like, how do you, like, fill your day with things that are important but relevant and also not feel like you're just going to hair out at the end of the day? I think a lot of us struggle with that, trying to make that be a good parent and be a good business person simultaneously. And you get pulled in so many directions and, you know, sleep is important
