Photo Week 2016 Retouching Critique

Join us as we welcome renowned image makers Jared Platt and Viktor Fejes for a LIVE retouching critique! In this free event, Jared and Viktor will critique your before-and-after photoshop or lightroom retouched images. You’ll get expert insights into improving your work and looking at new approaches to retouching.

Want to see your work critiqued live on air? Here are the details you need to consider:
  • Submit two of the same image (in the same file if possible)—a before image, and the after retouched image.
  • Images should be at least 2000 pixels on the long side, but keep files under 10MB
  • Label your JPG files: yourfullname.jpg
  • Upload your images to the ‘Student Work’ tab on this page by September 27 and tune in on September 28th at 2:45pm PST to see if your image has been selected.

Reviews

  • Some critiques were shallow and not accurate.
  • Pretty poor commenting in many moments. There is one shot towards the end where Viktor Fejes says people go overboard with frequency separation, that they overuse this "terrible technique" and that there is a disconnection between the tones and the textures, and for goodness sake I still have no idea what "disconnection" he was talking about in that shot, and there are notes on that shot specifically saying that frequency separation was not used, only dodge and burn.
