Create Custom Geofilters

Okay, let's go to the geofilters because this is super fun. And, um, we're gonna talk about creating them and the different uses for Let's go ahead and go to the laptop. And this is geofilters dot Snapchat dot com right here. Relatively new. But they've been doing geofilters for locations and for special events that are Snapchat created. But now they're letting businesses and the individuals create filters for a number of occasions. Let's talk about the non business aspect. First of all, anybody know somebody getting married soon? Yeah. Okay, so they want people to create a geo filter for the wedding so that all the guests there can use the Snapchat geo filter when they're taking pictures. There spreads the joy, birthdays, corporate events, any type of event, right? It's good for all those. And you could see they've got some examples here of filters for regions that are right here on, and they've got two kinds. They've got community geofilters for cities, universities, landmarks, publi...

c locations that no brand logos are allowed in that, and then you've got the on demand, which businesses and individuals can purchase for an event, a business, a specific location and that is where you can have certain brands and logos in it. So using your Snapchat account, you log in to geofilters that Snapchat dot com It's free to log in. It's free to play around. You only pay once you actually purchase something so you can create your own. Or they now have a tool that lets you create online. And they just launched this and along with you, this is the first time I've click this button. So let's take a look at it together for if you have a birthday, a celebration or a wedding, let's take a look at a celebration. Look at all these templates that are in here. Event name. Let's see. Does it come with these people? These beautiful people Look at all these. So these air, all choices from the celebration Look at all these different templates they have here. How fun. So we're going to just say the the event. Um, can you actually click on that? Oh, you can insert your own text right there. All right, so let's pick a really simple one. How about this event name, party, etc. Party with Joel, Of course. I bet we can yet like that, we have a design tools right there for us to change it on the fly a bit. That's font sure is pretty cool. So you don't even need photo shop to do this now. And I'm guessing that this is color sure is Make it yellow. Um And then there's color palettes we can select from And what does it look like with different pictures behind it? So you might want to see, because what they've got here are different backgrounds. And what's the contrast, like on the type of pictures that people might take And then we click next. Okay, and this is how you would do any geofilters. I'm just making it real simple, cause we're using the template. But let's say we want this geo filter to show up on the 30th because my party is going to go from seven o'clock on the 30th We shut it down, whips at 11 a.m. That's too early to start. There we go. Well, though PM here to pm then everybody's gotta leave. Okay, so we've in You can do multiple days. The way that Snapchat charges is by two factors. The time that your geo filter exists for and the amount of space that your geo fencing off. So the way the geofilters work is that when somebody enters into your fenced space of I think the minimum is 20,000 square feet, then the geo filter will show up on the phone. So let's just bump over to the phone for a moment, please, and pull up Snapchat. And if you want to follow along on yours, you'll see the example. So again, if we take a picture here, all of San Francisco is geo fenced for this to show up. This space right here is geo fence, and I'm gonna show you how we actually fence it off so they know where to show up. But if you go walk across the street, you won't see this geo filter because it crosses the threshold of the space where it is supposed to show up. Same thing with Johnny's. Johnny very wisely spent a few dollars to fence off creative life, knowing that he was going. She's even got to one here. He's got more than I got. Johnny is one shrewd guy, so let's go back to the laptop, please So we've picked on September 30th. There's going to be a party. Where is it going to be at that? What's going from 7 to 11 when we click next? Now here's where we draw the fence. Let's say where do we want to have a party? Let's have a party in Denver. That's where I live. And I wanna have that party I live close to here in Washington Park. This is the lakes that you see me is the park that I walk around and what I'm gonna do is I want to click, draw fence right down here at the bottom, and I want to have the party right here in the park. So I'm just going to click the center of the park. If you are in the park that day, you're invited to my party. And if you're snapping, I want people to know just like that and we can we can zoom in on it so we can get real particular. You imagine that your fencing off a retail location? Ah, bar a restaurant. Whatever it is you want, you can find it on the map. Okay? And you know, usually like to go a little. See, I just drag. You want to go a little outside so that you make sure you include everybody that might be in the region. Okay. And it shows it's a pretty big park. So we've got two million square feet fenced off here, and it's a big park. So for four hours that night, the Geo filter I that I want to show up will cost exactly $203.3. Okay, now let's bring it home to a retail operation and let's go down. Teoh reset the fence, and there are a bunch of restaurants close to my place on Gaylord ST right here. In fact, you could tell their commerce because they're in Brown. There's a great little restaurant right here on the corner, and let's say my event is gonna be there at that restaurant. Why? Just click, draw the fence and I'll draw it from you know one side of the street to the other to make sure it's inclusive enough so people standing in the parking lot can also see if they take a picture out there. So that's 15,000 square feet. Your G offense must be at least 20,000. So let's just drag it out a little bit and we're almost there. Were it. See how it's adjusting it in the upper left side. All right, that took us there. Look how inexpensive that is. The geo fence. A simple location, $5 for all four hours, really inexpensive. They're really encouraging people to use thes for events. Do have a question. So this particular, uh, AP is this that have separate from this is it's on their website. This is offered by Snapchat. You go to geofilters dot Snapchat dot com. Was there a second part of the question with then you connected? I mean, it's just connected through your through your account rights. You'll actually when you go to the site and it says get started and I'll ask you to log in with your Snapchat account. So whatever you're using toe log in to your your phone urine. Log into that here on geofilters dot Snapchat dot com as well. So we've selected the location for my for our party. While the party could go longer my party. It might go until one or two, but the geo filter I want to show up for those four hours so that anybody that walks into that green zone, if they're standing 20 feet outside of that zone and they take a picture and they swipe their not going to see it, they cross that line and the geo fencing should kick in. Where Snapchats going to go? They're in this space. We show this geo filter. Okay, So now what happens that we fenced off our spot. By the way, you can go Teoh satellite too, if you want. Actually see what it looks like. That way. Now we've got our spot. We click next. Okay, so what? I want to name this party with Joel in wash Park. Filter type, Personal or business? Well, this one we're and say it's just for personal party. Then this is where you put your payment info right here. And this is the total, um and you agree to it, and then you submit. Now, after you've done that, you pay for it. Then you're going to create your geo filter itself. Let's go to a previous account of mine previous geofilters that I've done. And OK, so this is one that I created for social media day, San Diego. I did the opening keynote. This is the biggest social media day in the country, and the several 100 people came to this June 30th. I set up the geo filter to cover. This is the hotel that it was at in San Diego, and I covered 258, square feet for um, eight hours cost me $43. Not a big deal. This is the geo filter that they used. This right here is a selfie with Joel Come. So the idea was him to be up there speaking people encouraged people on Snapchat to find me Take a picture with me. There it is and share that. And so it's pretty clear that you understand that this is viral marketing. This is spreading the message. It's incurring people, encouraging people the use your messaging and share it to their followers. It za brand awareness thing because there's no link. You can't click it. You can't put a U. R l on your geo filter, but its branding. Then let's scroll down and you could actually see the analytics so that day, if they know exactly how many people use that filter and added to their story. Brilliant. Right? So 34 people used that filter and it was viewed by 5000 and seven people who watched the stories that those 34 people put it in Pretty good numbers. I've had, Ah, some other ones that I did. Let's back up. And I think I used a similar one at Social Media Marketing World. Um, sees a sit here. Here we go. Now what? This was, ah, social media marketing world in March or April in San Diego. And, um, this one I covered too much of the place I covered the whole convention center. Turns out it was only in half of it, so I should have spent half the money on it. Should have been $45. I instead covered almost a 1,000, square feet. Oops, this one had 38 uses, and almost 10,000 people saw it. So interesting stuff. Okay, let's jump back to the presentation for a couple more examples here and talk about some of the reasons why you would do this. First of all, this is more discoverable ity basically worked by using it. You are telling people on our behalf. If you're using Johnny's Geo filter today, which really brilliant, Johnny, how many times have I said your name? Now I've said your name or because the people that are watching at home they don't have access to the geo filter. Only those that are here in this location dio but perfect marketing. Beautiful case study. Well done, mate. So it creates discoverable ity for local users because there's a lot of times you'll be on Snapchat. You be with friends your out and you take a picture together and then you're looking through the filters like, Oh, there's one here for the restaurant we're in. We didn't even know that they had one going. So now you're sharing that restaurant with all the people who are following so geofilters air. Great surprise. There's many times you'll take a snap and go, Oh, what's hero, that one school. Did you know that restaurant was there? That bar there's there's that event that's taking place just down the street were within the geo fence for it. Discoverable ity. It's a great branding opportunity because people are spreading the word about you or your brand or your business and they're doing it for you. Thank you very much. People of Snapchat. It's also very novel. Anybody do geo cashing? Never do that. It's like a scavenger hunt where you find little things that people hide and use your GPS to locate him. Well, a lot of people treat geofilters much like geo cashing. They actually hunt for them when they go new places and they're snapping their deliberately looking to go. What cool geo filter is here in this location? That I could use makes sense because some of them are really creative in a lot of fun. So there's the site geofilters dot Snapchat dot com, and you hear some examples free. Here's a wedding example. Alice and Rick just got married. Here's ah, you can use them for a cause, right? Not just, uh, weddings, birthday celebrations. But this was ah, Cosby strong stand up to bullying three great geofilters that this group used for those who came out to support this cause. Here's one McDonald's dead, right? If you happen to be there and you're eating, you're like, Oh, that's cool. I'm gonna use that geo filter as well. And of course, ah, here's example of one that we've used here today without the logo. We actually submitted it with the logo and they came back and said, You can't have branding on it. So we had to remove the creative live logo and Snapchat So it just says, Grow your brand on it. Snapchat Um so you are allowed to use logos when you do an on demand if you own the logo. So we could have used the rate of logo that would have been OK, but we don't have the rights to Snapchat, so they didn't want that one on there. So if you're making it for your business, you can make a non doma on demand. Um, geo filter as long as you own your logo. Thank you for clarifying that. Appreciate that. So what does that look like when you put a picture behind it? Just like that actually works really well with that background. So again, here's ah, this is the example that I had and how did it get used that day? Well, here three screenshots Vincenzo Landino, Amy Schmidt Tower and Brian fans. Oh, all used it and snapped me with the picture that they used great branding positioning for whatever your brand is, whether it's used an individual or whether it is your product, your service, your company. Any time that you can get other people to use your geo filter, they're basically saying, I endorse this person. There's my stats. We kind of went over those already, and uh OK, so that's that's any questions on geofilters. I have a couple questions from Yeah, let's do it. I'm here for you. Ricky is asking it. You can save a geo filter and use them later for later stories. Yes, absolutely. And if we can pop back to the laptop for just a moment, Ricky and the rest of you watching in your geo filter administrative panel, you'll see that you can create and right underneath is my geofilters. So when I click on that, this shows me all the total views of my geofilters, how many times they were all used, how much money have spent. And I can scroll down and you give them names you can see initially, this was rejected twice. You could see the underneath the red says rejected. It felt horrible, but I found out the reason it was rejected it wasn't because of my mug, it or the branding. It was because there was a limit to how many geofilters Snapchat will allow in a geo fence area at one time. And so, since this was for social media marketing world, it's the biggest social media event of the year in San Diego, 3 people. There was several personalities that were vying for geo fencing during the event. Well, the space that I had wanted had already been filled up, so I needed to relocate, reallocate the time that I was going to use that geo filter and then you could see it was complete. Here's a couple others. One order was complete here, too were canceled before they ran again because I had the space wrong. But all of these air accessible for you to use again. Was there another question? Yeah, I have a couple more questions. This goes back a little bit more towards when you were talking about Snapchat takeovers. Do you have a tactic to deal with exchanging passwords and log in information? Are you just changing your password to be something temporary and then giving it over to someone really good questions. So it's a matter of trust and completely depends upon who you're doing your swap with. I people have sent me their user name and password, trusting that I'm not going to go in and obliterate their account. And so depending upon what that level of trust is between you and whoever you're swapping with, that depends what you're going to do. There is no reason you can't change your password, give it to them, and then when they're done with the takeover, you can change it again. Snapchats kind of finicky about Loggins If you have more than one device, this is just a little aside and passwords. I have an IPad, an IPhone. If you log in on your IPhone, then you go logging on your IPad. It logs you out of your phone, so if you're doing a takeover of somebody else's account, you log in on your phone with their account. Next time they log in, it kicks you out on your back with log in screen. So I try to stay logged in on one device because I don't like having toe type my user name and password every time I go in, Little she got? Um, still, people are kind of what your thoughts specifically because there's no real right answer to this of how many times you should snap and how many times you should use a filter in a day. Great question. So and when we talk about storytelling, if I wanted to, I could sit around and do snap after snap after snap with all the funny lenses that around, they're making funny faces and just being goofy. Now that could make a story in and of itself, because there is enough people watching me that they'll watch me do anything, which is kind of ridiculous. But, you know, it is what it iss if I make it entertaining. I suppose it's fine. But for most of us to do that all the time, people like, Oh, yeah, funny dog filter. I've never seen that before you to write, and everybody does it. So I try to use lenses in context for a story. So there's, you know, I think, uh, with the dog filter, for example, you might have a story where you go to pick up a cookie and turns out you actually ate a dog, a milk bone, right? And it turns you into this dog like, Oh, my gosh. And then you look at it and see, you know, milk bone on it. And you're like this dog. All right, so we just made up the story 11 day, I, uh I saw I had a bottle of a brand of water which I will not say the brand, but, um, I wrote over it with the text on Snapchat, and it said small water on it, and I drank the small water. And before you know it, I had shrunken down the size and I snapped from the ground and I spend my voice upside talked like I was really miniaturized, and I lived my life that day as the small person so inspiration for these stories can come from the most common things. And, you know, storytelling is really all about asking the question. What if What if my shadow had its own personality and talk back to me? What if I had a can of soup that transformed me into a rock star? What if I drank the wrong water and it shrunk me down to size and I don't plan out Okay, so this is gonna happen. And now this and this and this and this. Some people need the storyboard that all out I just see where it takes me. And sometimes the story goes really well, and other times the wheels come off. And that happens. How long should that story be? As long as it takes to tell it. That's really the answer to story length. As long as it takes for you to have a beginning, a middle and an end worry more than 10 seconds. Um, how is able to get which story The Shadows story? Well, it's one snap at a time each each snap. Every time you saw the scene change, that was the next snap. And so you've got your whole story for the day. Let's go ahead and go to my phone for a moment, please. And let's look at today's story. Do. It hasn't refreshed the stats in a while, but all of these snaps go back to, um, Wednesday at 408 So it's almost been 24 hours. The snap has had about 1000 views. So excuse me when I download this, it takes the whole thing together. So now that video that is saved to my memories, I can export it to my own phone. And now I can upload that to YouTube, which is what I did with that. And I embedded in this presentation pieces off the snaps before you kind of get the whole story. Yeah, absolutely. Yeah, you can in. Sometimes I'll do that. There is, ah, strategy that some people use and we could go back. Teoh Presentation, please. There's strategy some people use is that they don't want people to start at the end of yesterday's story. I tend to approach stories thematically every day. I try to have a new theme. It's not this continuous. This is my life thing. And so let's say tomorrow morning I would wake up and have this idea for a story, and I really want anybody who's watching Snapchat toe watch that story. I don't care so much about what I did the day before. I can go in. Just delete, delete, delete, delete, delete, delete all the snaps from the day before, so that when somebody goes to my account because it starts them with the oldest snap within that 24 hour time range. So it is a strategy you can use. I rarely do that. Usually, if I've snapped that, I just let it live. Let it be there until it expires. And then when it's gone, it's gone. Yes, you have to be mindful about the like the brand companies that use, like Campbell Soup, for example, for that story. I wasn't, um you know, I can't imagine that anybody would have a hard time. I mean, those products are so well known I'm giving them, you know, quarter on that. I just There's so many things they could go after, You know, people were doing videos on YouTube saying how this is not good or not healthy, and I'm like, this turns me into a rock star, So I'm not I'm not afraid of that. So my question I don't have a legal answer to that, though, So let me let me let me just put that out there. I'm not a lawyer. I don't play one on TV. I have some lawyer friends, and they might be like, Oh, no, Joan. So please, nobody at home. Take this is legal advice either. How long did the store those memories. Stay on Snapchat After you say Great question so the memories will stay there stored for out there. I haven't found a limit yet. There actually might be one. I haven't researched it because I haven't seen anybody hit it. There might be. Ah, just like Cloud has limits to how many? So we're might income a day. We'll hit that limit and go. You know what? Let me stop just talking around this. Let's just do this. How much can you store in Snapchat memories? Well, nothing came up there right away to say that that there was a limit so not sure that their ah, not sure that there is, But memories is a great place to save them right away. It's really important that you export those memories and save those finished stories to your device.
