Cover Pages in SquareSpace

So one thing that squarespace offers is cover painters, and basically a cover page is kind of like a splash page or landing page. And they have their own templates for the cover pages. And unfortunately, you have toe reenter the type you want. So a lot of times, people will do like the cover page, and then they're like, Oh, my gosh, what color is that? What color is that that I used or what's that thought I used? This is where this is super helpful again. Um, and of course, I probably did not put the font color in there, but we'll just wing it really fast. So we're gonna go in and make a cover page color. Okay, so I'm gonna make a cover page, but I don't want it to be in my navigation. And so what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna hide that page. All the pages that are not link. So these are all the pages that are not linked, right? Andi, I'd want to go in and delete all these. Deleted some of them and they didn't not all that went away. So I'm gonna add in a not linked page and I'm gonna do a...

cover page, and I'm just gonna call it cover coming soon, So? Well, they updated their imagery. So here's one template that you can use, but you can also change the layout. Um, two different covers. So if I was to click on this, it looks like that. And then you can also stylized these a little bit more as well. I'm actually gonna stick with the 1st So it's kind of like its own separate little site that you're doing within this. Um, here's the branding and the text for it. And and I have all my stuff in here that I wanted to say, and I want to photos. Um, you can You can choose to put a logo instead of the tax. It's one or the other in there. And, um, actually, I just so I don't want that there wanted to bay here just to be this is super huge on me. Maybe I want this to be something else. So this definitely does not look like foresight yet, but we're gonna put that in there now, um, em injury. We're going to change the imagery so you can again click here, or you can upload this way or you can drag and drop. I'm just gonna go ahead and upload it on. And I have two images that I want to put. If you put one image, it's great if you put two images. It's like a slide show you can put. You can put more than two images. I would have been too many images, but you certainly could put, you know, three, maybe four images in there. So say that Go back. Um, it can change the name of what you want to say here and say whatever you want, you can add. So if you choose this way with the buttons, you're only going to get two buttons. Um, I'm gonna get rid of this because I want to click this to my files. I mean, my content on. I wanted to go to work so you can add another button in their, um and you can even add a form in there. If you go with navigation, it will be a bunch of It'll be a list of stuff, but I'm gonna go with the button, and then I need to style it to match everything for me. So, um, it's not that it's Brandon. And I wanted 72 then. Boy, you're awesome. Just intrigue. Um, 507. Maybe I go a little smaller, and then you can dio body different too. Regular. 20 points. I might go a little medium. Um, there's my actions style imagery, and you can choose to get rid of those Teoh by not displaying them. We're displaying in save book. Um, so now, um, this is going to this page, but if I wanted people to come to the other page, I need to set that page as the home page. Um, so I'm gonna go back in here and click on the settings. I want to make sure that I have my site description in here again. Always back to that, because you're that's for S e o. Um, it's just gonna be called cover, and I'm gonna set this as a home page confirmed and safe. So now when people come to the site, it can see looks very different. It's a little dynamic, um, going to go into it. It opens up, um, and you can change it so that it doesn't open in a new window, Um, but to your site. And, you know, again, I might go back into change that cup. Something with that coloring isn't right, so we'll probably go in and change that coloring. But we just built the whole site and a very short time. Um, yeah. Don't you want to just make one of these little guys? Look how beautiful. Um, so you can always go back in and change things. One thing else that you can do about square spaces say you've done everything you don't like the template, and you can go in and change the template as well. Um, does. Everything doesn't automatically transcribe over to the new template, so sometimes you get lucky and it does in there. But a lot of times is because of the functionality, like this one is set up with an index where some of the other home pages aren't set up. That way you can use the whole indexing several ways with you're designing. If you're designing from scratch, it doesn't have to be in home page instances. If I'm not really clear as to what the category does, it doesn't seem like there's a place where you can go to categories and it's gonna take you to Oh, okay. Yeah, well, let's see right here if you're on. Um, this site is the categories and tags is really specific to the blawg. But when you get a little bit mawr into designing with squarespace, there's ways that you can categorize things with summary blocks. And so, like, um, your shop is one way to categorize things. Um, if I'm pulling in like I recently did, a website for an artist who was a gig poster music poster designer. And so the categories were based on the year so you could find things based on that year here. If I go into event graphics, it's gonna pull up everything that I have titled Event Graphics, which is both of these. So in terms of blogging, it would be really good if your site was set up a certain way and it's say, for instance, you were categorizing. You said you're an interior designer. Okay, so you're in cattle categorizing by modern design. Traditional design, contemporary, eclectic. Those are your categories. So when you have things set up and you've you're blogging about certain things or you have if you got custom and you start getting into the summary bucks of imagery you can. Actually, people can actually go. I wanted to see that. Everything modern or I'm like at your I'm reading a block post and it's tagged wedding. Oh, well, what else is tagged? Wedding and I go. And that's the only one that's tagged wedding right now. So that's a really nice feature in terms of organization and for the user to be able to go. Oh, you know, I want, like, one of my, um we make the nonprofit that ideo. We have video, We have interviews, we have makers, and then we have the names of the makers. So you go to the maker page and you're gonna type in, Um, you click on Carson ls. And everything we ever did with Carson Ellis. Whether it was a video or she didn't event or it was an interview, we'll all pop up into one category. Um, I could probably show you that you want see it. Okay. Um, so this site is done on squarespace. We use allies the, um, the bar on top to show what's happening. What's next? Um, we break it up with different categories. Um, you can see all of our stuff. We have the feed for Twitter and Instagram in the bottom. We also have a newsletter in the bottom, which was nice. Um, and we choose to keep powered by squarespace on there. Eso if you go to makers. Um, we do a lot of things around the maker community, and we interview makers of these air All of the things that we've done with the different people. Um, if you click on, let's say we'll go to Well, good Lisa comment. So up here it says, sketch exchange. We make celebrates two different things fall 2014 because that's when it was in, um, and everything that we've ever done with Lisa Kong been will come in here and be as part of that and pull up. So all of our post will pull into that, Um, and her name comes in here, so she's tagged in there, and it's being pulled in. Um, it's also we just did Carson Ellis the same thing. So there was a video by her that we created. Um Then here was her recap of her event that she did with us, and you can see we're using, You know, the photos to go over. We're doing a grid template to pop in adding some quotes, and then this is the interview that we did with them that help. Okay, good. The one thing is, if you want to get in touch with me, you're more than welcome to reach out. You can find me at enter the study dot com or on my social media at Avon P. I have watched other Squarespace webinars that haven't given me the confidence to tackle building my digital portfolio like this one has. Yvonne is easy to understand and provides just what a designer needs to know to get started. This course was exactly what I needed to get me going!
